There are four basic techniques of breast augmentation in common use worldwide. These are performed by plastic surgeons and the basic premise of the operation is to add some substance to the current situation of the patient's breasts. The use of implants is necessary for the operation a success. The main difference between the techniques is where incisions are made.
Transaxillary
This method of breast enlargement is one of the least chance of scarring because the incision is made near the armpit. This presents minimal scarring and implant placement is usually below the muscle which means there are fewer interruptions in the flow of milk that breastfeeding more viable for future children. This is due to the fact that there is less damage to the nerves that help with breastfeeding, as well as the glandular tissue that is basically to produce milk. Studies also show that this location also reduces the risk of bag filled with saline or silicone leakage or deflation.
Inframammary
This method of breast enlargement incisions made just below the breasts. These cuts will become unnoticeable because it is made in the crease of the breast and chest. The effect of this method on milk production and feel of the area depends on where the implant is placed. If placed above the muscle has a greater negative effect on both.
Transumbilical
This technique requires that the implants are inserted through an incision in the navel. This is a common technique, as it usually does not damage the tissues and glands of the breasts. Although the damage can be minimized, the effect of milk production and the sensitivity of the area may be compromised.
Periareolar
This technique of breast augmentation is the most damaging to the glandular tissues and nerves around the mammary glands. The incision is made around the areola, deep enough to go through the tissues and nerves. The implants are inserted through the hole made and stuck deep enough in the chest. This affects the production of milk production and the sensitivity of the area is to touch and other stimuli.
In total, patient preferences and the way the doctor explained every procedure that affects the final decision for breast augmentation technique to follow. Physicians should be clear on the advantages and disadvantages of each method.
